Nokia is planning to launch green phone models in INDIA

Nokia is planning to launch around 40 new green phone models this year — each comprising biodegradable components that can be easily recycled.

Mobile phones are not biodegradable. They contain small amounts of potentially harmful substances such as cadmium, lithium, among others, in their batteries which, if not managed properly, can damage the environment.
Nokia will be using biodegradable phone covers, recyclable battery designs that use less harmful toxic materials and energy efficient accessories for all our forthcoming phones. Already, they have eliminated the use of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) in all our phones.
Nokia uses biomaterials, such as polylactic acid (PLA) plastics with plant or other biomass-based modifiers that help reduce the use of non-renewable materials. An additional bonus is that the energy required to produce PLA — from raw material to plastic pellet — is minimal..

Nokia is also investing in green bins across all its priority dealer centres, where customers can drop their old phones, and plans to extend this service across all Nokia centres. It had earlier launched its first eco-friendly phone, the 3110, which is claimed to be more around 65 per cent recyclable. "The green phones, which will launch this year, will be introduced across all price ranges,"

The company is also aiming to reduce amount of energy consumed by mobile chargers. "We are also hopeful of reducing the no load power consumption — the power wasted when a charger is left in a live power socket — by a further 50 per cent by 2010."

Nokia will also be focusing on training and awareness programmes designed to ensure that those working in care centres operated on behalf of Nokia take-back programme can advise consumers on recycling issues.

It would also simplify software license management and allow automatic access to upgrades of latest products and ease of use, affordability and productivity along with allowing flexible payment options

Open Value not only offers an easy payment option to help the SMB community overcome 'pricing pressures', but also protects the customer from product price fluctuations during the license period.

During the 3-year period, OVL also provides Software Assurance, a feature that allows access to valuable benefits such as training, IT planning, software upgrades and product support.

Open Value is designed for organizations with 5 or more PCs and allows companies to enter into a single licensing agreement for as many desktops or servers as they consider necessary. Customers can pay in 3 annual instalments, and also choose to increase the number of licenses purchased at any given point in time, thus allowing them to accommodate business fluctuations without the burden of over-investing in IT.

Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the affected batteries could potentially experience over heating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with relevant local authorities to investigate this situation.

Nokia has several suppliers for BL-5C batteries that have collectively produced more than 300 million BL-5C batteries. This advisory applies only to the 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. There have been approximately 100 incidents of over heating reported globally. No serious injuries or property damage have been reported.

On the back of the battery, the Nokia mark appears at the top, and the battery identification number (consisting of 26 characters) is found at the bottom. If the battery identification number does not contain 26 characters, it is not subject to this product advisory.

The Sony PlayStation 3 makes no excuses about what it wants: your entire living room. Sony wants you to watch Blu-ray movies in between playing your PS3 games and streaming content to your PSP. Another piece of the puzzle has been announced at Leipzig, as Sony has unveiled a combination TV tuner and DVR for the PlayStation 3.

The device is called PlayTV, and it features two high-definition tuners, the ability to record television shows, and you can move those shows onto your PSP for viewing on the go. It's an intriguing product with a strong set of features, but unfortunately it will be a while before we see it in the US. While European television uses the Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial (DVB-T) format, the US uses ATSC, which Sony is choosing not to support at the present time. Sony has not announced any official plans to bring PlayTV to this side of the Atlantic, but Sony's Phil Harrison confirmed told Kotaku that once terrestrial digital broadcasting comes to the US, Sony will be ready to take advantage of it. Maruti Udyog has introduce iCATs the immobilizer system across all its models to add security to its products. Though immobiliser is more common in western cars for the sake of cost in Indian immobiliser fails to find a place for a long time. Losing of cars increased proportionally to the increase in car population also stolen vehicle recovery ratio is very low in India. Hence security system is necessary for Indian cars though there is no regulation for making it mandatory.

How the system works
The device, called iCATs (intelligent Computerised Anti-Theft system) works on the principle of multiplexed communication. Under this system, a transponder - inbuilt into the car key - carries a unique electronic identification and a secret code that digitally communicates with the engine computer via a controller. If the secret code matches, the engine starts and in case of a mismatch, the electronic circuitry does not let the car to start, thereby preventing the car from being stolen.

The Mumbai-based Micro Technologies has come up with products that help curb thefts and cautions users of impending accident warranting immediate attention through SMS, e-mail and also on the landline.
One of its products, MicroVehicle Black Box VBB, is an anti-theft security system that enables the user to detect any unauthorised access into his vehicle. “Micro VBB uses various sensors to detect smoke or events such as forcible intrusion. It is also proactive in enabling the vehicle owner to exercise control over his vehicle till it is traced,” said Dr P. Sekhar, Chairman and Managing Director, Micro Technologies.
In case of a theft, the user has to send commands in a prescribed format via SMS to a particular number. Once the SMS reaches the system, it immobilises the car engine and locks the doors. Apart from messaging as a mode of intimation during incidents such as intrusion, smoke detection or gas leakage, the system is also incorporated with audio effects such as a siren.”
